This Halloween, after over a decade in the crypt, the Sydney psychobilly trio with a cult following will reunite to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their debut album Glad Rags & Body Bags.

Sponsored by Route 66, Enmore.

Zombie Ghost Train (ZGT) the triage trio of mortuary musicians were a stand-out in the Sydney live scene from 2003 to 2008, attracting audiences with their original music and legendary live shows. In theatrical makeup fresh from the morgue, their highly entertaining performances combined their love of monster movies and 50s trash culture to create a fantasy world of b-grade horror and sci-fi monster madness on stage. Their sound was a sonic junkyard, blending rockabilly, garage punk, surf and voodoo rhythms. Children of The Cramps and misunderstood victims of the karaoke generation, ZGT toured extensively through Australia, USA and Europe, and had their music released by several labels globally.

Without intention – and without playing live shows, or re-releasing their music for over a decade, or having any social media presence until now – the undead trio have established an impressive cult following, racking up millions of views on YouTube, had their music featured in TV shows (including hit HBO vampire show “True Blood”), and the band’s logo appeared in a Harry Potter movie emblazoned on the back of a punk’s leather jacket. Original vinyl copies of their cemetery-certified debut album Glad Rags & Body Bags (2005) are so rare, they’re now a highly coveted item fetching hundreds of dollars online.

Longtime fans will recall the annual ZGT “Monsters Ball” events held at Sydney’s long-dead Marquee Club – they will be reviving this event in 2025 at the Factory Theatre in Marrickville to celebrate 20 years of the album. Buried alive and ready to jive, the original ZGT lineup of Azzy T on drums / backing vocals, Captain Reckless on double bass / backing vocals and Stu Arkoff on guitar / vocals will be reuniting for this special occasion.

Lurching into the lineup for this spooktacular night will be Darth Vegas (another bizarro Sydney cult act who will reunite for this one-off event), Sydney rockabilly misfits Bang! Bang!, burlesque performer Vesper White, and vinyl DJ Boo Boo Muck will be mixing a cocktail of garage, soul and monster hits. The evening will be hosted by the iconic duo Jay Katz & Miss Death (of the Mu Meson Archives cult cinema museum, and Sounds of Seduction), projecting a stack of weird and wonderful horror movie footage. Dressing up in one’s Halloween finest will be encouraged, with prizes for best coffin couture on the night. Fans old and new can expect a wild night of fiendish fun.

Front-zombie Stu Arkoff says, “We’ve been overwhelmed by all the messages from around the globe about ZGT reuniting and re-releasing our music. It’s been a long time coming and we’re thrilled to be back from the grave to celebrate this monsteriffic occasion.”
