Mike Peters
Mike Peters, front man for the internationally acclaimed Welsh band The Alarm will make his Debut Australian Tour this December 2014.
As founder of what is now regarded as the world?s leading rock and roll cancer charity Love Hope Strength Foundation, Mike will be in the country to speak at the 2014 World Cancer Congress in Melbourne, as well as playing just three special shows across Australia.
Mike formed The Alarm in 1981, with classic singles such as The Stand, Sixty Eight Guns, Strength, Rain In The Summertime and A New South Wales (recently voted number 6 in the all time top Welsh songs). Live, The Alarm built a reputation for all out shows based on thoughtful and challenging music that can account for 15 Top 40 UK singles and some 5 million album sales worldwide.
Lead singer Mike Peters has also sung with some of history?s greatest performers such as Bob Dylan, Neil Young and Bono including a recent guest appearance with Bruce Springsteen in January 2014.
Diagnosed in the early 90's with his first battle with cancer (Non Hodgkins Lymphoma) and rejecting conventional treatment, Mike Peters went to see a faith healer instead, and continued to tour extensively in the UK, Europe and USA. Upon being told that green was a powerful colour in his life, Mike Peters wore green combat fatigues every day until he eventually went into spontaneous remission.
In 2000, Mike and The Alarm toured with Big Country in support of The Alarm Complete Collection, sparking a musical relationship with the late Stuart Adamson. Mike would later take up the challenging role of singing for Big Country between 2010 and 2012.
In 2006, Mike Peters' life journey entered into its darkest phase, diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia (CLL). Throughout a six month spell of hardcore chemotherapy, Mike continued to play and perform, taking to the stage each time in his trademark green combat fatigues. Since then, Mike has embarked on a series of remarkable journeys including leading a host of fans to the summit of Snowden in Wales to raise funding for cancer care both locally and globally.
Mike Peters launched 2014 as the year of ?Declaration? a celebration of the 30th Anniversary since the release of The Alarm?s debut album. A re-imagining of the album that highlighted the original alt-folk, acoustic punk protest roots of the songs that formed the core of the album's original intent, followed by a unique one man band Alarm World Tour that took Mike and The Alarm?s music across the UK, USA, Europe, Japan and, this December, to Australia.
